EVENTSWonyip Koala and Bat Survey (Sat, 23 Mar 2024)Join Wonyip Landcare Group on 23 March 2024 to learn all about koala and bat ecology with Kelly Smith of the Great Victorian Koala Survey and Laura Owen of Wildlife Unlimited - and then go looking for them! This is the last official event of the Wonyip Biodiversity Survey so don't miss out on the fun! Bookings essential for catering purposes (via Eventbrite "Wonyip Koala and Bat Survey")
Wonyip Bioblitz Weekend (3-4 Feb 2024)After all the seriously wet weather in Gippsland in recent months, we could not have asked for more ideal conditions on 3-4 February, as 34 volunteers met in Wonyip for the bioblitz - the peak event for the year-long Wonyip Biodiversity Survey. Volunteers from Intrepid Landcare, YYLN and the Landcare community/friends were led by experts Dallas Wyatt (Birds) and Jenny Wolswinkel (Flora) on a two day surveying exercise across private land and Brataualung Forest Park. Using iNaturalist, the group was able to register over 450 observations covering 211 species, and counting. In the evening the group welcomed Nick Clemann, frog and reptile expert who delivered a session that was both passionate and inspiring on the importance of biodiversity and the frogs and reptiles found in the Wonyip region. We also squeezed in a night walk and some eDNA sampling of local waterways.
Watch this space for the last event in this project - most likely a 'big tree hunt' and bat ecology session...

Wonyip Bird and Flora Survey (9 Dec 2023)Yes, it was a little damp, but the Wonyip Bird Survey was still a super event, led by our bird legend, Dallas Wyatt. 20+ species were identified including the threatened pilot bird, first observed at Wonyip in the October bird walk.
Albert River Reveg Project Tour (13 Nov 2023)On 13 November, the Albert River Landcare Group held a tour of a super revegetation project at Saul and Sandy Stainer's wetland!! It was a bonus opportunity to meet Anna Feely, the Network's new Facilitator!!
AGM - Sat, 28 October 2023The YYLN Annual General Meeting was held at the Yarram Country Club on Saturday, 28 October 2023. Over 40 members heard from Tim Rowe (Biodiversity Legacy), Tim McBride (HVP) and Luke Anedda (Corner Inlet Fishermans Habitat Association) about their initiatives in our patch and the importance of biolinks. Members also met our new YYLN staff, Simon Hamilton and Anna Feely. Thank you everyone who attended - it was a lively night and great to get the community together again.
Wonyip Platypus and Bird Survey (21 Oct 2023)Wonyip Landcare Group hosted a bird and platypus survey on Saturday, 21 October as part of its Wonyip Biodiversity Survey. Our bird experts, Dallas Wyatt and Jane Taylor, led 18 volunteers on a bird walk along the Wonyip Conservation Trail and at Dingo Creek Reserve, discovering over 27 bird species, including the threatened pilotbird not previously reported in the area. A water sample was also taken from Dingo Creek for DNA analysis, so the group will soon discover what species are passing through the creek! Keep you posted...
