UPCOMING EVENTS 

It's all about the seagrass...

YYLN has been working closely with our commerical and recreational fisherman, WGCMA, Ozfish and many others to restore our precious seagrass beds in Corner Inlet.  The Corner Inlet Posidonia Partnership is coming to a close, but we have two opportunities for interested people to be involved and learn more:

Event 1:
​Help make some sand-snakes (Tues, 13 June)

Come along and lend a hand to help restore seagrass in Corner Inlet!
When: 10am - 2.30pm, Tuesday 13 June 
Where: Port Welshpool (exact location to be confirmed with registrants before the day)

Sand “snakes” are created and placed on the bottom to create productive zones for seagrass to recover. We need your help to prep sandbags for the next deployments!
Come along to the community volunteer day to lend a hand and hear about how fishers, community and Landcare are working together to restore these critical fish habitats.
This project is funded by the Australian Governments Fisheries Habitat Restoration Program, with support from West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.

Come along and join us to learn more about the restoration of Seagrass in Corner inlet. Ben from OzFish will be sharing their work over recent years, along with some historic information.
He will also be seeking your input on past areas of seagrass growth to help fill in our knowledge gaps.  
We will be putting on pizzas for tea from 6.00pm with the presentation kicking off about 6.30pm.
Drinks will be at bar prices.

Soil Health Workshop

Birds and Biolinks - Walk, Talk and Gawk (21 May 2023) 

BIRDS AND BIOLINKS - WALK, TALK AND GAWK was held on Sunday, 21 May 2023, at Won Wron
Dallas Wyatt, local biodiversity expert, and self-proclaimed bird-nerd, guided a group across the exciting Landcare Biolink project.  Further updates will be posted soon!

Wonyip Fungi Foray

MAY WAS FUNGI SEASON and on Sunday 7 May the Wonyip Landcare Group hosted 20 volunteers on a fun fungi foray.  With the help of fungi enthusiast, Faye Viner, and several hours of exploring we registered 100+ observations and 48 species on the Wonyip Conservation Trail alone, all uploaded to iNaturalist.
This is the first event in the 'Wonyip Biodiversity Survey: Volunteers, Experts and Technology Unite for Impact', a year long project funded by the Victorian Government's Victorian Innovation Fund (VIF), Wettenhall Environment Trust (WET) and Wonyip Landcare Group (WLG). 
We are uploading our fungi images to iNaturalist and #FungiMap, so download the iNaturalist app and join Wonyip Fungi Project so see our growing collection!

Victorian Landcare Grants

Applications for Victorian Landcare Grants closed on 16 May 2023 and Yarram Yarram Landcare and it's Groups have been very busy preparing project proposals :

We are excited to hear if we have funding for the following activities:

Network-wide Proposals

  • Yarram Landcare – Where the Field Things Are, a Network-wide proposal to establish landscape-scaled wildlife corridors
  • My First Landcare Project, a proposal from new members of the YYLN to start their restoration projects
  • Jack River Restoration, and opportunity for the YYLN community to come together for some restoration work.
Group Projects

  • Merriman Creek – Farmers adapting to the changing climate – preparing for the next drought.  
  • Wonyip – Dingo Creek Wildlife Corridor  
  • Albert River – Revegetating an important Nooramunga biolink while protecting coastal saltmarsh, mangroves and broadleaf seagrass.  
Well done everyone for your amazing grant-writing efforts - fingers crossed we get the funding so we can start these fabulous projects!

LATEST NETWORK NEWS

Subsidised site visits

Interested in submitting a VLG grant in the April/May round and don't know where to start?YYLN wants to assist you in preparing project plans and has engaged Seeds of Gippsland to work with interested members through individual property site-visits.  The cost of a site visit will be shared between the landholder and YYLN - $250 each.  Site visits aim to accurately map out the proposed project, determine costings, provide advice on species selection etc...
If you want help with your next project, follow the link below for more information and to submit your Expression of Interest.  Note - there will be a maximum of 20 site visits this round, so hurry before VLG grants are announced!
